NATIONAL VALIDATION AND INVITATION OF STAKEHOLDER COMMMENTS ON THE DRAFT SUGAR INDUSTRY REVITALIZATION POLICY
Kenya remains a net importer of sugar despite having the potential to produce enough sugar to meet her domestic consumption and surplus for export. The sugar subsector has operated with no specific policy to guide the industry and this informs the Government’s quest to have one in place. The draft Sugar Industry Revitalization Policy, which is in its last stages of finalization, is intended to facilitate the availing of affordable quality sugar and co-products, adequately remunerate all industry value chain actors and contribute to Kenya’s economic development. This is to be achieved through guiding the industry towards an efficient, competitive and sustainable sugar subsector.
The Minstry intends to hold a National validation Workshop on the Draft Sugar Industry Revitalization Policy on 27th June 2023 and invites stakeholders to submit comments on the draft in the period leading to a national validation of the document on 27th June 2023.
